TSL 2591 vs TSL 2561

by Tom_Henry on Mon Sep 14, 2020 4:04 pm

I am working on building the Home monitoring dashboard from the September 2020 issue of MagPi, pages 52 to 55. The project calls for an Adafruit TSL2561 which is discontinued by Adafruit. I have the Adafruit TSL2591 sensor. It looks like a direct substitute. So my question is: can I use the TSL2591 in place of the TSL2591? Thank you. Tom Henry

Hi Tom_Henry,

The TSL2591 is a little different than the TSL2561. While you can use the newer model in place of the older one it will require different interface code, i2c address and has sensors with a wider range so expect some additional work. That being said the changes will likely be minor.
