Powerboost 500 Basic low-battery LED always on

by duapuiimiani on Wed Dec 06, 2017 3:59 pm

Hello,

The red LED on my Powerboost 500 Basic is only supposed to light up when the input voltage dips below 3.2V, but on my unit, it is always on, even when the input is greater than 4V. I've tested with a few different fully-charged 3.7V Lithium-ion batteries, and the light is always on. The LBO pin works as expected; it reads high when battery voltage is greater than 3.2V and low otherwise. Do I have a defective unit? Is there something else going on?

Here's a picture.

The value you're getting on the multimeter is an average.

Try putting a capacitor in series with one of the probes and taking an AC measurement. That will tell you how much ripple is in the supply voltage. My guess is that it's fairly large.
