Problem w/ joy bonnet

Post by ski_bum911 »

Installed on a pi zero w, installed the code as per install page
followed the direction s, rebooted and after a reboot
Got the retropi / emulation screen for configure new device

... When I press a button to configure it sees it as a keyboard
Not a game pad, now the buttons work, but the joystick does not

Any ideas on a fix, or is it a possible a bad joy bonnet ?
The install does work since a have another pi z I put in a nes cart

Any help would b appreciate
Thnx

That's how it's supposed to work.

RetroGame is a keyboard-based emulator. It maps keyboard input to button and joystick signals for the emulators. The 'Configure Input' screen mentioned in the tutorial lets you associate the buttons and joysticks with specific controls:

There are too many flavors of ‘not working’ for me to decide if it’s a hardware problem or a software problem without more information. It’s normal to need to go through the RetroPie input configuration screen to make games recognize the keystrokes generated by the Joy Bonnet, for instance.

Let’s step back to the basic input. Does the Joy Bonnet generate keystrokes when you press the buttons, and then does it generate keystrokes when you move the joystick?

I spent. A Few hours to solve thus issue, first of. Tried reinstalling the joy-bonnet script,
After reboot, still didn't reconizge the joystick being moved, in any direction
But the buttons worked on the joy bonnet. ( as in the initial issue)

So I went drastic, and created a new install of retropie, and installed the joy-bonnet
Script, rebooted and this time the joystick worked, ( in all directions)
so I guess there was some sort of issue Or something installed that the joy-bonnet
didnt like and stopped it from working fully

Not sure why, but it's finally working
So thanks.....

I have a very similar problem, my joy bonnet is recognised as a keyboard as well, and seens to be fine but when I try to asociate the buttons
I only be able to do some of them work, the joystick works, but the "select" and "A" buttons doesn't. I installed the configuration script several times,
rebooted between instalations and seems to be correct, I try to install the whole Retropie severeral times with the same results :(
I have to say that I haven't solder the headers pins to the Raspberry, but moving the board slightly always seem to fail the same buttons.

@Fito2019: Please start a new thread for your issue. Tacking posts onto the end of a thread where the original issue has been resolved makes it harder for us to keep track of the problem being discussed later.

Hi,

I recently purchased a joy bonnet with a raspberry pi zero with soldered connections and case. I have been able to install retropie and run the commands from the adafruit website but the joybonnet does not work and is not recognized by the system as far as I can tell. Advice?

Thanks!
Matt
