apt.adafruit.com down

I am not able to run
Code: Select all | TOGGLE FULL SIZE
sudo apt-get update
on my Raspberry Pi because the apt repository at apt.adafruit.com seems to be down.

We shut down that server a couple of weeks ago, and should have updated all the tutorials that use it.

If you found a page we missed, please post the URL and we’ll correct it.

How do I find out which packages my Pi were downloaded from the Adafruit repository and configure apt not to use apt.adafruit.com in the future?

All of the packages should be in the main servers by now. Just remove 'apt.adafruit.com' from the file /etc/apt/sources.list

I have looked everywhere and there is no right answer i can find, how do I do the command

sudo apt-get install raspberrypi-bootloader adafruit-pitft-helper raspberrypi-kernel
and not get an error. The apt.adafruit.com repository is gone, everywhere says the main repositories should have it. I can't find it Please help!

Oh and your documentation on the pitftplus really sucks for the buttons,

The GitHub for Adafruit Occidentalis still references it in the readme. https://github.com/adafruit/Adafruit-Occidentalis

Also, this tutorial probably shouldn't exist: https://learn.adafruit.com/apt-adafruit-com/overiew

I see that the Occidentalis project hasn't been updated at all in a while, I'm guessing there are newer methods to do the same things now.

We keep all of our older tutorials for historical reasons, but try to add notes to the ones that are outdated and no longer supported.

I'll let the web team know about those so we can add warnings if necessary. Thanks!

I love using Occidentalis, it was a great program, because I often take my raspberry pi on the road, and changing between my onboard vehicle's WiFi and the Hotel's WiFi, or a client's WiFi couldn't be easier. I even developed a script keeping various sites SSID & Password in encrypted compressed backup files. Then just run the script and it decompresses, decrypts, and copies to /boot/Occidentalis.txt, then just reboot. Easy Peasy switching. Why did you drop it? I find it one of the most useful utilities. Also your install Occidentalis make setup of a new pi easier. You should bring them back into support. Find My Pi is also useful when you have 5 or 10 pi's on your network.

Thanks

Hi phoggberg - I've ported occi over to our Raspberry-Pi-Installer-Scripts repo and added support for installing system-wide with a systemd unit file instead of the old init script. You can install this version with:

Code: Select all | TOGGLE FULL SIZE
git clone https://github.com/adafruit/Raspberry-Pi-Installer-Scripts.git
cd Raspberry-Pi-Installer-Scripts
sudo ./occi --install

In general, it should work the same as the previous version of the utility.
