PiTFT - 480x320 3.5" TFT+Touchscreen for RPI 4b issues

by Hansenw on Thu Apr 30, 2020 8:59 pm

I have just purchased the 480X320 3.5 " resistive touch screen and have connected it to a Raspberry PI4 using jumpers. I have double checked wiring and all is correct. The display powers but just shows a bright screen. The RPI is using BUSTER. I have a friend who has used this same display on a RPI 3 without issue. Is there any differences in GPIO pin assignments between the 3 and 4?

I got it working: RPi 3 B+ Adafruit PiTFT Plus 480x320 3.5" TFT+Touchscreen for Raspberry Pi, Raspbian Buster (desktop withoud recom softw), Python 3.
The main trick was: do not use adafruit-pitft.sh!!
(unfortunately I did not yet figure out the touch control)
I have attached a log of my install from scratch and a simple clock (klok.py)
Hope this helps

Thanks,
I went thru your script and find that I do not have either /dev/spidev0.0 /dev/spidev0.1 listed. SPI is enabled, in fact I disabled and reenabled it but still they do not show up. and suggestions?

I think the original script messed a few things up. I was able to use your script as and now have the date and clock displayed on the screen.
Thanks so much

The GPIO pins referenced in the installation instructions are either not complete or incorrect. I have a RTC, and UPS hooked to the PI (4B) which means that the display can not directly connect to the RPI. I connected power, ground, and the SPI GPIO pins as instructed along with GPIO18, 24 and 25. The screen just displayed a bright light. I then connected all open GPIO ports to the display and the display now shows the date and time. By process of elimination I will see which pins are needed and report back.
