Hi,

I was delighted when the cyberdeck hat came back on the store. I ordered one with a 4" hyper pixel right away, but can't get it to work.

(invoice 2548526)

The hyperpixel works. I tried it on a pi zero. No problem. works directly plugged into the GPIO on the Pi400 (with desktop upside down).

But when I introduce the cyberdeck something isn't right. The connections to the display and the pi400 are good. I have also tried with extenders on the pi400 just in case. The display backlights when I power up. But the desktop appears for only a blink on an eye then the screen goes black, Its still powered, it is backlit, but nothing on screen. I can SSH onto the device, so it is running, just not outputting through the cyberdeck.

Any tips or suggestions appreciated. I think I might have a defective unit.

What are the extenders you mention here? Are those something entirely different from the Cyberdeck? And you're getting the same behavior?

I just mean the 40 pin female header that comes in the box with the hyperPixel. Whether I use these or not, the result is the same.

Oh, OK, this riser?

So just to be clear, it seems like the behavior is specific to the Cyberdeck? The display works fine on both Pi's when direct connected. But not when through the Cyberdeck. No other changes?

That's correct. The cyberdeck makes the difference. If we leave the headers out entirely , the display works on the pi400 and on pi zero.

Introduce the cyberdeck and I have the issue described.

take a look, are there any traces/pads that are not soldered through on the cyberdeck? someone also mentioned needing to mechanically adjust the 'deck - we test each deck with a TFT Kippah which is just-about-the-same thing

No, none of them look bad. some of the soldering is not pretty, but it all looks sufficient.

only thing we can recommend is maybe reseating/tilting the cyberdeck. there's no active electronic parts - the pins pass through! hwat if you plug it into the other Pi (Zero or 3 or whatever)?

Here is the hyper pixel working fine directly plugged into a Pi4

Here is the same set up with the cyberdeck inserted.

You can see that VNC believes the device is outputting to the correct form factor, and it does come up on the display for a second or two, so the connections are made, but something about introducing the cyberdeck is causing the image to fail very quickly. This doesn't happen with the display connected directly.

No amount of angling / reseating seems to make a difference.

I think there is a manufacturing defect in the cyberdeck.

hmm, well we could either replace it or refund - there's no guarantee another cyberdeck would work (if its something about the hyperpixel combined!)

Replace would be great. I don't think there is any issue with the hyperpixel.

Hello, I am having this exact problem. I have a Cyberdeck hat connecting a Hyperpixel 4 to the GPIO on a Raspberry Pi 400. Just like the other poster in this thread, when I plug the Hyperpixel directly into GPIO it works perfectly, but when I introduce the Cyberdeck hat the backlight turns on as does the screen for a brief moment before turning off.
