Raspberry pi Zero WH is defective?

Post by Diegoav »

Hello,

I ordered a Raspberry Pi zero WH from Adafruit for a project I'm working on. The device I'm building is a heatermeter v4.3, basically a temperature regulator for smokers. The device worked independently without the raspberry pi, the pi just hooks it up to wifi. When I plugged in the raspberry pi, not only did the device stop working, but the pi started to heat up and a burnt smell started to come from it. After removing it the device still worked. I thought maybe the voltage coming in was too high and broke the pi, I checked all the connector pins with a multi meter, everything was to spec and int he correct configuration. From this I can only assume the raspberry pi was defective, I plugged it into other pi's no issues, can you help with getting me a refund or new pi zero wh?

Thank you for the help,
Diego

How did you plug into the heatmaster and did other pi's work without trouble/heating? Can you post pictures of your system, I am interested in your thoughts on the performance.

I can post pictures when I get back home, but the heater meter doesn't use all the pins, but because of the design and other components there is really only on way to plug in the pi. I had another pi from another project, I tried that one, no heating no damage, everything worked as expected. I went ahead and ordered a new raspberry pi zero wh, because the project is a bit time sensitive, but I can send the old pi back if need be for a further look.

I just realized there is a 1 MB limit on attachments, so I can't send the videos I took. I'm going to link a google drive showing the videos, please let me know if you need any more info.
