Power a RPi3B+ with screen not using a USB power bank

Post by Steger21 »

Hello,

I am looking for a solution to power a RPi3B+ based project with a 7" Pi touch screen. I need to be able to switch seamlessly between wall power and battery. I need the battery to be at least 15Ah. I have the resources to make my own battery packs so I thought that a good solution could be a RPi UPS circuit. Does anyone out there have experience with a project using one of these? I have ordered a few for testing, but the first one that came in just doesn't work. I tested between the 5V and Ground pins using a commercial 3.7V LiPo battery pack and there is no voltage there at all.

Any suggestions? Does anyone know of anything that has worked for you?

We use the PowerBoost 1000C in our 7" Pi MultiTouch Tablet guide. It uses a Pi 2 running on a LiPo pack.

I ended up tearing open a Rav Power USB power bank that has passthrough charging and integrating it's components into my build.

The monitor can be powered by a 10W charger – it can be your regular USB-C smartphone charger or you can use the charging head provided in the box. You can even power it up using a power bank (provided your power bank outputs 5V / 2A)
