Raspberry Pi LEGO Build HAT Stacking Headers

Post by johnmrichey »

I have tried to find a stacking header that works reliably with the Build HAT but to no avail. The pins on the stacking headers are smaller on all the available headers I have tried so far to make a reliable connection to the Build HAT.

I have tried both types from all my trusted sources, but they are identical.

Do you have a recommendation please? When putting the Build HAT on a Pi3 or Pi4 directly the mating is correct but when using any of these stacking headers it’s just not reliable as the pins on the headers are smaller and don’t mate properly to the Build HAT. I even ordered a second Build HAT from Adafruit to be sure it was not a problem with the original I got from CanaKit.

Also, it’s not possible to stack a Build HAT directly on a Pi 3 A+ model since there is a component that hits the USB-A connector preventing it from seating all the way down flat.

I found that Adafruit P4079A works much better.
