RFM69HCW Bonnet on RPi4 not making good contact with header

Post by MrClicks »

Hello all,

This is more of an aesthetic question.

As the title states, I am trying to use an RFM69HCW Bonnet, https://www.adafruit.com/product/4072, with an RPi4.
When I first received the bonnet, I just put it on the GPIO header without any standoffs. The soldered header allowed for the pins from the Pi to come right through and all was great except for one thing. I have a heatsink on the CPU of my RPi 4. Eventually the bonnet will make contact with the heatsink, right on the exposed solder points for the CS, CLK DI, and DO signals that run to the RFM69HCW.

I don't think that's a problem honestly, but I don't want this hot heatsink making contact with the board. Additionally the PoE header is possibly making contact as well which isn't an issue since I'm not running PoE.

When I attempt to stabilize the bonnet, using Adafruits standoffs https://www.adafruit.com/product/2336, the bonnet is making intermittent connection with the GPIO header. Is there a shorter standoff I can get somewhere or maybe a different solution I'm not thinking of?
