Console Cable no longer supported in win11

Post by chucko208 »

The console cable is no longer supported in win11. The cable with PL2303TA is end of life according to Microsoft. When you plug it in the device driver manager gives you this message.

Yes, the manufacturer of the USB to serial adapter chip PL2303TA, Prolific, has decided that they no longer support the driver for that chip in Windows 11.

There are some work arounds on the Internet that may work for you, for an unknown amount of time.

You may be able to get it to work in Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL).

Newer versions of the cable come with a SiLabs chip, that should work in Windows 11.

The USB to TTL serial cable Adafruit sells (#954) has been shipping with the CP2012 SiLabs chipset since 2016.

Just to clarify please...

Does this mean the new USB to TTL Serial Cable DOES support Windows 11?

Yes, the currently shipping console cable is CP2012 based. SiLabs has released a Win11 driver for this chipset:

Great. Ordered, thanks.

FWIW, you might explicitly mention that on your product page. :-)
