So stupid question because I can't just tell from the pictures. Can I use this directly on the PI 400, or will the speaker plug be pointed down and unusable?

Good though on the audio plug access. I think you could likely use a right angle 3.5mm stereo plug for access, but to play it safe it would probably be best to use a GPIO extender.
