Hey all - we just added a new 4.1 kernel to apt.adafruit.com that should include all the upstream changes and full PiTFT support. It could use a little testing before we make easy install images, if anyone wants to check it out and doesn't mind the hassle.

Code: Select all | TOGGLE FULL SIZE
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

...should do the trick, unless you've already pinned packages to an older version. I think you can undo that, if you have, with:

Code: Select all | TOGGLE FULL SIZE
sudo apt-mark unhold sudo libraspberrypi0 libraspberrypi-dev raspberrypi-bootloader

Lemme know if there are any issues!

just to be super clear, from a fresh raspbian installation

curl -SLs https://apt.adafruit.com/add | sudo bash
sudo apt-mark unhold sudo libraspberrypi0 libraspberrypi-dev raspberrypi-bootloader
sudo apt-get install adafruit-pitft-helper
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

When you reboot - connect an HDMI monitor to your Pi, the top left logo should not be a raspberry pi logo - it should be an adafruit logo with a raspberry accent :)

That worked for me! I have a display and wifi connectivity.
Thanks.

I have the Adafruit 2.8" PiTFT installed on a RPI 2. I used the RPI image for this touch screen image available from your site in May. This week when I ran the "sudo apt-get upgrade" to upgrade the OS, the upgrade got stuck at the step getting the bootloader. It never went past 92%. Will this be resolved if I do the "unhold" step before upgrading? Thanks.

Hi y2kats65 -

Unless you had already run

Code: Select all | TOGGLE FULL SIZE
sudo apt-mark hold libraspberrypi0 libraspberrypi-dev raspberrypi-bootloader

...then the unhold step shouldn't make any difference.

It sounds like maybe your network connectivity was interrupted during the upgrade. Does this repeat every time?

Yes, I can reproduce the problem using different SD card.

You might just have missed a "sudo apt-get update" somewhere in there. Otherwise, if it's not network-related (or maybe a full SD card running out of space?), this one has me a bit stumped.

We do have fresh images up, as well as new install instructions on the guide.
