Gemma V2 cant access bootloader

by TidyMax on Mon Feb 12, 2018 2:44 pm

Hi guys.

Bought myself a trinket, fadecandy, gemma V2 and a flora.

Trying to mess around with the Gemma V2 first off and I am getting absolutely nowhere!! Tried it on my surface pro, surface hub (All USB 3.0 which I know it can have issues with). So I tried it on my MSi laptop. 1 x 3.0 port and 2 x 2.0 ports and still nothing!

\i've installed the drivers, deleted and then reinstalled.

Double pressed the reset button in a huge variety of ways. Both windows devices make a noise like they know something has been plugged in, but i cant access the bootloader or circuitpy drive at all!

Moving on to the flora next but any help or advice would be very much appreciated.

Cheeers, Max

For Gemma, it's a single press

If you try that, does it behave as indicated?

Just plugged it back in and tried that, still no luck! The red LED is pulsing for 10s as it should be but laptops aren't playing ball at all. Its making a new device noise but not acknowledging anything.
MU editor cant see any device being plugged in.

Just tried the FLORA and thats fired up instantly.

thanks for the fast response.

It sounds like the bootloader is running. Can you work through the guide and see if you can get blink to work using the Arduino IDE:
https://learn.adafruit.com/introducing- ... -ide#blink
and make sure you do have the drivers installed:
https://learn.adafruit.com/introducing- ... dows-setup

MU editor cant see any device being plugged in.

You can only use MU with the Gemma M0:
https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-gem ... -mu-editor

Hi!

Just used my flora via IDE and programmed the blink just fine. Followed the guide for Gemma and still no joy.

You are correct I think I was following the guide for M0, however I still haven't been able to see CIRCUITPY and IDE can't see it either.

Ive used different microusbs and I am currently on the one that was supplied with the kit. When I try to use IDE, PORT is blanked out, as it obviously cant see anything is attached to the laptop. As soon as I plug the usb and attach the miniusb with the flora attached PORT becomes clickable and I can upload as I like.

Thanks again.

CIRCUITPY will only show up for a board running CircuitPython. The Gemma V2 can not do this.

In addition to the drivers, did you also install the board support package?
https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-ard ... rt-package

Also, do you have a black or a teal Gemma?

I am having a similar problem with the black Gemma 2 - I have several Gemma 2 (B) item #1222. All do not flash when I press the reset button ... so I do not see the red LED pulse - although it does faintly glow red when pressed. I did follow the install guide - https://learn.adafruit.com/introducing-gemma/about-the-bootloader

I have tried different USB wires and ports prior to posting :)

Any help would be greatly appreciated
