How to tell first pixel in Rings and Jewel

by Oaktown on Wed Feb 13, 2019 5:02 pm

I am just getting started and would like to know if there is an easy way to identify the first pixel in both the rings and the jewel?

Also, does data travel clockwise when you look at the pixels?

The first pixel is usually right at the solder pad for the data pin. I believe I have seen both cw and ccw pixel arrangements. It really does not matter as you can adjust it in code. The best way is to wire it up and load the strandtest code.

Writing a short piece of code is probably the easiest way to figure this out. Write something that just lights the first pixel, and then you'll know which one it is. Then write code that lights two, then you'll know which direction it goes.

Thank you, I guess I can always do that but the underlying question was once we test one is to know if they are all. going to be the same.

In general they should. At least all of the same product type.

They aren't placed down randomly. There's definitely a known order. The schematics/fab prints/CAD files could be used to trace things out:

but I think just doing it with a little test program will be easiest.
