Advice on wearable

by kungfulinux on Wed Apr 10, 2019 11:29 am

Hi,
I am new to the wearable thing, and I have and idea I want to get some thoughts on. I am a lead singer in a metal band, and I am thinking of making a leather jacket that has LEDs that respond to audio. I would like it to be able to appear to resemble flames during a particular song, but during others just randomly change. I have a Metro Arduino and I have started learning simple projects with lighting LEDs, etc. Advice on which types of LEDs I should use? strips or the sewn in single addressable LEDs? If I use NeoPixel strips, is it easy to make multiple strips work as one large display?

thanks for any advice!

Start out with the ampli-tie sound reactive light project https://learn.adafruit.com/led-ampli-tie/overview
Using individual neopixel elements chained together or a continuous strip is coded the same. Switching between effects or animations shouldn't be too difficult, get one thing working and then add on to it.

You could take a look through my instructables https://www.instructables.com/id/Neopix ... Ice-Wings/ for an implementation of the flame effect.

Look through the Neopixel uberguide https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-neo ... -neopixels
to get you ready since there is always power/battery consideration and memory requirements if you use a lot of neopixels. Good luck.
