Ring not programmable

by Kadeca on Wed Jul 29, 2020 8:40 pm

I received RFID / NFC Smart Ring and received today. I put in notes that the ring needed to be programmable IC Type A 13.56. I have scanned ring on every frequency and it does not show up. It consistently says read failure. It also has no engravings leading me to believe it is a fake that someone returned. It was opened and had no instructions. I looked all through your website and tried all troubleshooting methods. Ring does not work. I have programmed multiple other RFID tags.

I need to return and get a replacement sent immediately.

Can you provide more details about the hardware you are using to try and read from the RFID ring?

Using the same one that is shown on the instructions. And I’ve used it on many other HiD and IC cards, tags, tokens. Programmer Works fine. The problem is the ring.

Using the same one that is shown on the instructions.

OK, that's the one we know it *should* work with. So let's work with that. Just to be sure, you're following this Learn guide?

Yes I followed the guide perfectly, again I have programmed many other tags. The ring is not even scannable more readable On any frequency and on any frequency and It is not working.

That guide has an example that shows how to use the ring with a keyboard emulator to enter a password. But prior to that, it links to this more general guide here:
https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-pn532-rfid-nfc

That guide has a more basic functional check example. Were you using that for testing?

If so, what did you get in the Serial Monitor when you ran it?

I don’t understand why this is so confusing. It’s not reading anything at all. Not readable. No frequency at all under any frequency.

Is that based on using the hardware and examples per the guide? Or with your hardware?

If you ran the example from the guide, what did you get in the Serial Monitor?

What other hardware would I use other than my own hardware that I already uploaded a picture of?

I don’t have this hardware and I’m not trying to install the password helper. The guide doesn’t not show anything about programming using the reader/writer that I already posted a picture of.

I don’t have this hardware - Adafruit PN532 RFID/NFC Breakout and Shield, and I’m not buy more hardware. This rfid ring should be programmable with the hardware I have.

well, for one, the scanner says 125KHz.

do you know for a fact it supports ntag2x3 13 MHz?

then, have you tried a smartphone? most have RFID ntag support in them and have free apps

please email support@adafruit for a refund
