laser cut ampli tie

by ccook1212 on Fri Dec 02, 2016 5:47 pm

Hi all,
New to this. Made the ampli tie. Works exactly right when running still attached to computer. Works when connected to computer while lipo is attached. When I go battery mode (3.7lipo) about half the lights (lower half) stay lit all the time while the top functions correctly. Ideas?

Wow. I really have no idea what would cause that. Maybe a wiring error? Can you post some pictures?

Is your lipo battery fully charged? How many neopixels are in your strip, the lipo may not be big enough to supply power? I think it is recommended to drive and power neopixels at 5 volts so I have always used a 3xAAA battery pack or power output from one of those USB phone charger portable battery packs. I've gotten odd behavior from neopixel strips when the batteries are getting low, mostly neopixels being stuck on a color or random ones lighting up or still pulsing. If it works fine connected to the computer or wall power then your neopixels strip should be ok or otherwise you need to check for bad connections or a bad neopixel in the chain. Good luck.

caitlinsdad,
Thanks. I was wondering about that but left the tie at school all weekend. I am charging the battery now. Tried the tie through a phone charger this morning and it works. So I am guessing you are correct. I spiced it up a bit by using a laser cut wood tie.

I'm happy it was a simple fix. It looks great. I hope Adafruit notices this as worthy of a mention in the Adafruit Wearable Wednesday blog.

And, over on instructables, they have a few contests to enter this in if you do a writeup.
