Total newb in need of some help. I don't know what I am missing here. Any insight would be most appreciated.
I'm trying to make the pixie skirt for halloween.
I directly copy the code from the webpage and get the following message when verifying:
Arduino: 1.8.3 (Mac OS X), Board: "Adafruit Flora"
/var/folders/1g/5sz2dds546l3j09v9btmr4180000gp/T/arduino_modified_sketch_266210/sketch_sep30a.ino: In function 'void setup()':
sketch_sep30a:45: error: 'class Adafruit_Pixie' has no member named 'begin'
strip.begin();
'class Adafruit_Pixie' has no member named 'begin'
I see Adafruit Pixie in the library so I'm confused with this error.
Your insight would be most appreciated!

Try changing this line:
to this:
Code: Select all
strip.begin();
Code: Select all
//strip.begin();

Re: Fiber Optic Pixie Skirt - code issues
That should've gotten the sketch to compile. But is it also running as you expect now?

I was having the same issue and did the code change and it loaded but the accelerometer & compass sensor is not triggering the Pixie 3 watt LEDs

Re: Fiber Optic Pixie Skirt - code issues
This may help. Looking at the code, there is a twirl value which needs to be changed to adjust sensitivity. Drop it down to 4, 5, or 6. The only real way to calibrate what you have is to monitor a serial print of the accelerometer reading in motion and see what range the readings are. The code is using the x axis reading so it will also depend on how you mount the device on the skirt as the y or z axis may be a better sensor of motion. Good luck.

thanks for the info on the twirl value but at this time we have not added to the skirt, it is on the workbench we are shaking the heck out of it and no lights are coming on

"HAL, what was the problem?" Something with the library or sketch code?

I just saw all this! Haven't been able to touch it for a few days (caught a bug from the toddler across the street - Ugh!), but will try it tonight!
