Heating Pad won't Heat

by 80h on Wed Oct 14, 2020 5:11 pm

I have a an electric heating pad (part no. 1481). I ran it with an Arduino digital pin on HIGH (5v) and nothing happened. I tried a second heating pad...nothing. I plugged in a LED instead just to make sure everything else is working and the LED light up nice and bright. Here's the code, but I don't see how I could've messed that up:
Code: Select all | TOGGLE FULL SIZE
void setup() {
pinMode(3, OUTPUT);
}

void loop() {
digitalWrite(3, HIGH);
}

Please help me get this working!
Thank you!

An Arduino digital pin can only supply a few millivolts. You need much more current to produce heat : https://cdn-shop.adafruit.com/datasheet ... Fabric.pdf

You can use a transistor on the output of your digital pin to switch the current that you need for a heating pad: https://learn.adafruit.com/transistors-101
