Blockly or MakeCode for FLORA?

by ejm554 on Fri Jan 29, 2021 7:25 pm

Hello! I just picked up the book, "Getting Started with Adafruit FLORA," from our local library. It's great, and even my 10-year-old became very intrigued. We homeschool, so I have been thinking that they could be persuaded to tackle one of the projects.

However, I know that they are not up to doing the text-based coding as shown in the book. He's comfortable, though, with visual based coding, like MakeCode, Blockly, etc.

Can the Adafruit MakeCode system or another drag & drop programming interface be used with FLORA, or can the projects be easily adapted to Circuit Playground Express (which is already designed to work with MakeCode)? If so, are there guides somewhere?

Keep in mind that we haven't played with any of these products yet, so we'd be starting from scratch.

Here is a nifty tip to find the guides for any Adafruit product find the product number in this case for the Circuit Playground Express is P/N 3333 and put it into this link.

Hi. Just pinging. : -)

Still hoping for an answer to my question about modifying the projects in the FLORA book.

To recap, I'm wondering if those projects can either be easily modified to work with the Circuit Playground Express, or if there's a way for my kid to do the programming in the book with a drag & drop interface.

The Flora is an Arduino board the Circuit Playground Express can work with Arduino code.

The block code programs will not work with Arduino code so all the examples would have to be reworked into block code.

There are plenty of existing MakeCode examples that can be used with the Circuit Plarground Express.

Here is the Adafruit Learning System sorted for Circuit Playground Express and MakeCode so you can see all the things to build that way.

The Flora is a wearable board so the book must be about wearable projects. If you are wanting to make wearable stuff and use MakeCode take a look at the Gemma M0.
