Neopixels Vs Sequins

by rstepnoski on Mon Apr 26, 2021 10:46 pm

Hello,

First time Adafruit user, my dad got me a Flora board, neopixels, accelerometer, and more about 12 years ago. I’m finally ready to use them. I’ve done a lot of reading and honestly don’t understand most of it, but I’m eager to learn!

The project I have in mind involves connecting the Flora board to the accelerometer, then chaining many neopixels and sequins to it for a little sparkle. The problem is, I purchased many sequins but I’m not sure that they are programmable, i.e that I can program them to sparkle based on my speed. Am I correct? Should I be working exclusively with neopixels for this project? (Side bar: how many neopixels can I chain with one flora)?

Sequins are just simple single-color LEDs. You can connect 2 or 3 to a Flora pin an turn them all on and off in unison using digitalWrite to the pin.

Neopixels are smart, addressable LEDs. You can chain hundreds of them to a single pin and individually control the color and brightness of each one.
