Fiber Optic Light Source - 1 Watt - Underpowered

Post by elmwoodelec »

Hi - we're a reseller, and we have a customer who has bought a number of your Fiber Optic Light Source - 1 Watt - Red (product ID: 4165). The customer is disappointed that the LEDs appear to be considerably under-powered, drawing at most 0.6 W at 12 V.

Please advise if it's possible for these units to draw full rated power, and what the user needs to do to achieve this.

I'm the aforementioned customer. Of all 10 LEDs I purchased (that each have labels stating that they are 1.5W), the maximum current drawn was 0.6w at 12V. See attached image.

As a result, the LED very poorly illuminates even a few inches of sode-glow fiber optic tube.

Is the current limit on the power supply set that low?

No, regardless of current limit, they did not draw more than 0.05A at 12V. In this photo it was not limited at 0.05, the current draw was near 70% free.

it may have changed specs, they used to draw 100ma.
please email support@adafruit for a refund - we wont replace them because we only have the same item in stock.
