It won't work piggyback style since the pin footprint is different on the Trinket M0. But if you wired the pins up as below, it should work.

backpack - trinket M0
BAT - Bat
GND - Gnd
5V - USB

Thank you.
I was reading some reviews online and a couple people said if you don't use Adafruit batteries the polarity is reversed?

Our batteries will work with our products. We make sure all the polarities and connectors are the same through out the products.

There is no standard for polarity. Other batteries may be different.

Too bad! How did that happen? reverse polarity? Another brand battery?

I did not use an Adafruit battery.

I used an off brand battery and hooked + to + and - to -.

POOF!

It sounds like you got a LiPo whose JST-PH2 connector was wired with the opposite polarity from the version we use.

There are two ways to arrange the red and black wires in the plastic housing, and you can find both versions in the wild. The version we use puts the red/positive wire on the side closest to where it says 'Lipoly' on the PCB, and the negative/black wire closest to the mounting hole.

Connecting a LiPo with the wires swapped can kill the LiPo charging chip.

That's my guess as well.
But on the bright side, for my design I think I will forgo the backpack and make the battery accessible so it can be pulled out of the case and charged with a USB 1s charger.
Will simplify things a bit.

But just for curiosity, I have another one and I'm going to try it with the polarity swapped.
