I am a beginner with regards to anything to do with powering. To my understanding. I am using 2 power supplies, one for Arduino and one for motor shield. I know what I need for Arduino, but I am having trouble figuring out which one I need to use for motor shield. I know that I want to power it through the block terminal with a 12v power supply. I do not understand how much Amps I need. The battery for my project needs to be rechargeable, and if possible light weight.
Thanks for the help.

I am using 2 nema 17 stepper motors for one of my systems. Then using another Arduino and shield I am using 2 MG995r servos.

NEMA-17 is a frame size designation. It tells us where to drill the mounting holes. It tells us nothing about the electrical requirements. Please post a spec sheet for the motors you are using.I am using 2 nema 17 stepper motors

Those steppers are compatible with the shield and will run best on 12v. Although they run reasonably well at 9v - with about 25% less torque.
At 12v, they need about 700mA each. For 2 you will need a supply capable of at least 1.4A.
The servos will run on anything in the 4.8-6v range.Stall current is close to 2A. Under normal loads, plan on 1A-1.5A each.
