Powering an Ugly Bug

by acutair on Thu May 02, 2019 12:01 pm

I'm super new to microcontrollers, electronics, &c. but I've always been interested, and am stoked to get my feet wet.

I thought my kitty might enjoy (destroy?) the "Ugly Bug" project here >> https://www.hackster.io/Jerepondumie/ugly-bug-348dc7 I understand how it works, conceptually, and thought I'd run the code on the Trinket M0 to keep the size and expense to a minimum.

Ideally, I'd like a battery solution that can power both the Trinket and two micro servos. I need 3.5V for the Trinket, and the servos take 5V.

If I used a three AA battery holder, could I power both? Would four AAs (6V-ish) be too much? Is there a better/more efficient solution?

TIA for any info you have.

Andre

The servos should run fine on a 3.7v LiPo or LiIon. Looks like that is what they used in the UglyBug project.
These are available in a variety of capacities. 1200mAh is a nice compact size and should give you a reasonable run-time.

Second choice would probably be a 3xAAA pack. https://www.adafruit.com/product/727
