Pro Trinket IDE 1.8.9 Com Port Issue

by Pac1 on Sun Jun 23, 2019 3:39 am

I finally upgraded to 1.8.9 and now I am unable to get the IDE to read the USB port correctly for the Pro Trinket; basically in the Device Manager in usblib-win32 devices, I can see the USBtiny pointing to Port_#0004, but in the IDE, there is no Com4, only Com1, 3, & 5. The IDE isn’t “seeing” the Pro Trinket.

I installed the latest adafruit_drivers_2.3.4.0.exe to no avail plus in Board Manager, in Contributed, I installed the Adafruit AVR Boards version 1.4.13; I do see the Pro Trinket Board on the Board Manager List and I am selecting the programmer as USBTinyISP.

I am just not getting the com-ports dialed in properly; this is happening on two separate computers, running Windows 10 and Windows 8.1 Pro, same issue. I am missing a step in the upgrade somehow, can anyone help?

Thank you. Much obliged.

What do you get if you press (or double press) the reset button?

When I press the reset button on the Pro Trinket, the green LED stays on and the red LED flashes in the bootloader mode; my issues are with the OS "properly" recognizing the USB when Pro Trinket is plugged in and the IDE recognizing "that" port.

See attached, in Device Mgr the USBtiny is there in Port 4 but in the IDE there is only Com 3 and the error message upon uploading. I'm not sure but is there an additional driver I have to install for 1.8.9? This is happening on both desktops, Win 10 and Win 8.1 Pro, both Device Mgr points to USBting on Port 4 and neither computers have Com 4 in port selection in Tools. Both running 1.8.9.

I have installed the latest adafruit_drivers_2.3.4.0.exe and the Adafruit AVR Boards version 1.4.13.

Thanks.

Does the pro Trinket show up as a com port in device manager when inserted or the reset pressed?

No, it does not show up as a com port in DM when inserted or when reset is pressed; the DM does refresh however and the "libusb-32 win devices" loads with USBtiny but there are no new comports under USB controllers.

I reinstalled 1.8.9 on the win 10 machine just now to no avail, under Tools/Port only "Com3" shows up and again, in properties of USBtiny in the DM, it shows it working properly and points to Port 4. There is no Com 4 in the IDE.

Not sure if this helps but FWIW the Uno works fine on the new IDE; the DM shows "Arduino Uno" under Ports and it shows up fine in the IDE as well.

The Pro Trinket does not have a com port and after you set the board and programmer to USBtinyISP you should be able to upload programs. Check out the tutorial.
