Load program and it will not work.

by Hotshot7997 on Wed Aug 07, 2019 5:41 pm

Hey

I think the Trinket is just a dud. I used the same programing I have been using for over 30 trinkets and this one will just not come up. The wiring is soldered correctly and all the connections are right but still no go. How can I get a replacement please?

I have checked every part of the circuit and replaced every component the issue followed trhe trinket M0

It sounds like the Trinket M0 has been wired in to some project. Did you test it before soldering wires to it? Are you able to remove it completely from the project so nothing is attached for testing?

So the way I have it wired is on pin 1 I have NEO 2 pixels with the ground and power soldered into GND and BAT. The battery is connected via the pads on the bottom of the trinket. I have removed everything from the board and it still will not power up via battery. It still will allow me to use USB to drop in programs but nothing more after that.

Can you post a photo of the Trinket so we can see the current state of the hardware.

What programming language are you using?

I am using the Make code website to code. As I said the same code has been working on 40 other trinkets. I will try to get you a photo in a few to see the joints but I can not keep this together as I can use the neo pixels on the next working unit to continue production.

Looks like you have BLACK ground soldered to +JST pad....

Where does the BLUE wire go?

Check your power connector polarity........

https://learn.adafruit.com/assets/49778

disconnect your power wires from any power source and, if you have Arduino IDE, try this test via USB code to see if your trinket is still alive. It will flash the on-board dotstar three colors:

Code: Select all | TOGGLE FULL SIZE
/*Original sketch here:
https://hackaday.io/project/9017-skywalker-lightsaber/log/72354-adafruit-trinket-m0-controlling-the-onboard-dotstar-led-via-arduino-ide

get the adafruit dotstar library zip file here:
https://github.com/adafruit/Adafruit_DotStar

*/

#include <Adafruit_DotStar.h>

#define NUMPIXELS 1 // Number of LEDs in strip

// Here's how to control the LEDs from any two pins:
#define DATAPIN   7
#define CLOCKPIN   8

Adafruit_DotStar strip = Adafruit_DotStar(
  NUMPIXELS, DATAPIN, CLOCKPIN, DOTSTAR_BGR);

void setup() {
  strip.begin(); // Initialize pins for output
  strip.show();  // Turn all LEDs off ASAP
}

void loop() {
  strip.setPixelColor(0, 0xFF0000); // red
  strip.show();
  delay(1000);

  strip.setPixelColor(0, 0x00FF00); // green
  strip.show();
  delay(1000);

  strip.setPixelColor(0, 0x0000FF); // blue
  strip.show();
  delay(1000);
}

Wire color has no meaning on this at the moment. Only reason why black shows up is because I am using a JST connector to a switch. So the red wire actually goes tot he power source. The blue also goes to the power source but that isn't the problem I can connect the power right to the pads in the correct polarity and it still will not work. I should have the original file I can pop right back in to see if it works but right now I don't think it will considering this is my 41st unit and its having issues but all the others worked fine. I Checked with my volt meter yesterday and I am getting nothing from the pins.

It still will allow me to use USB to drop in programs but nothing more after that.

So you have no issues pressing the reset button and getting the board to show up on USB and see the TRINKETBOOT folder?

Here's a simple program that will blink the onboard DotStar RGB LED. It should blink red/green once a second. Can you load it and get it to run?

So update: If you try to power it from that pad on the bottom it never powers up. I will reflow solder but is there any other point I can test power from. I also tested from the Batt and GND and it will not power up.

The DotStar blink test above could be done from USB power, can be same USB cable as used to upload the program. When powered, the green On LED should be lit.

The pads on the bottom are the same as the header pins. They are directly connected. So you could use the header pins as test points.

I wasn't asking a question I was saying it works from USB but will not work if you apply pwer to the pads or the pins

With the battery power applied, what voltage do you see on this pin?

I saw 0 from USB and 0 from 0 when applied to the pad at the bottom.
