Re-installing Trinket Bootloader

by WesWesthaver on Sun Jun 21, 2020 12:12 am

I have several Trinkets that need their bootloaders re-installed. Can I use my USBtinyISP AVR Programmer to do this? if so, can someone provide step by step instructions?

If you have a trinket m0, here's how:

If it's the other type, then I think this tutorial might have most of the info you need.

My Trinkets are 3v and 5v standard type Trinkets, not the M0 type. I really wish that I could use my USBtinyISP AVR Programmer to do this. It would seem to me that this should be possible and it would be a lot easier than having to wire up another Arduino to act as a programmer. Does anyone know if there is some technical reason why this can't be done?

Also, isn't the "Tools | Burn Bootloader" option in the Arduino IDE supposed to let you re-install the bootloader for the selected "Tools | Board" which I have set to "Adafruit Trinket (ATtiny85 @ 8MHz)" if you have a hardware based burner like the USBtinyISP AVR Programmer?

Is there any Adafruit support here? I'd really like an answer to my previous question. Considering that the Trinket and the USBtinyISP AVR Programmer are both Adafruit products I would think that this shouldn't be a tough question to answer.
