Could you power a Trinkey with a battery?

Post by ShakespeareGeek »

Now that I've got a working Trinkey and have been playing with it, one thought that crossed my mind was making some sort of jewelry for my daughter. I could do something with a wire and a battery pack (like one of those rechargeable things) in her pocket, but that doesn't sound very fun. Could you power this thing on 1 or 2 of those quarter sized CR2032 type of batteries? Wondering how compact I could make it so maybe she could wear it on a chain around her neck or something. Is that a thing? I'm 99% software guy, only starting to dip my toe in self-contained stuff, so I have no idea the difference between "can't be done" and "oh sure we do that all the time".

Which model of Trinkey are you using? Is it the Neo Trinkey?

A USB battery pack would be the easiest, but of course bulky.

You can certainly shrink things down with a PowerBoost 500 with a LiPo pack.

A single CR2032 cannot provide the current you need to drive 4 NeoPixels, but you can experiment with minimal batteries and the MiniBoosts.
