Bluefruit LE Sniffer working once

by chrisootes on Thu Jun 25, 2020 4:42 pm

Hello,

I bought a Bluefruit LE Sniffer - Bluetooth low energy (BLE 4.0) nRF51822 [ADA-2269] and it is working for a little bit after I plugged in, than after few minutes its gone even after I replug it in the same PC. If I plug it in an other PC same story working fine for couple minutes, windows driver installing etc, then gone forever. On Linux I saw it once in lsusb, then never again. I suspect something wrong is with the USB2UART chip?

Hi Chrisootes,

There is a driver required for this device. It uses the CP2104 USB chipset.

On your PCs are you running Win10? There are also OS/X and Linux drivers on this page.

Try the driver page. Newer driver can resolve this with Linux and possibly win7.

I have tried it on Windows 10 with v10.1.8 driver same problem after 5 minutes the COM port is gone for ever on that pc. I don't think it is a driver issue.

Yes, it sounds like this is not a driver issue.

Which model of the and firmware version of the BLE Sniffer are you using?

black board or blue board
If black firmware v1 or v2?

Got it. When you downloaded Wireshark Sniffer Tool did you grab the v2-beta1?

nRF Sniffer V2 Multi-Target Application
When downloading the desktop/Wireshark Sniffer tool, make sure to download BETA 1, which matches the firmware image below. You can select this version via the drop down selector shown below:

chrisootes,

Looking over this thread I never saw that you had installed the necessary Virtual COM port drivers for the CP2104. You had just been using the stock ones with the windows machines. Is that correct?

No I did not use stock one for Windows 10, I installed version v10.1.8 from: https://www.silabs.com/products/develop ... cp-drivers
If the COM port disappears after 5 minutes on 3 different systems with 3 different OSes with 3 different driver versions, you would think the chip is probably broken.
