Here is one board, top and bottom. (Note green dot on bottom, in balloon, to distinguish from the other board)

Thank you for the pics. These boards do look identical in terms of markings and components.

I do see some pins that could might need a touch of soldering on the red balloon board around the six pin female header and bottom row when viewed from the bottom of the board. Would you mind going over the soldering one more time on the red board and confirm that no change happened. If this does not help, I'll go ahead and recommend these non-functional ones be replaced.

I went over the soldering again on both boards, and the green-dot board did successfully reflash, but with the red-dot board, esptool.py continued to give the message "A fatal error occurred: Failed to connect to Espressif device: Timed out waiting for packet header".

Thanks Eric. I appreciate you taking the time to re-check the soldering and attempt to sync.

Let's get you replacements for the 2 of the last batch that were not working.

Please e-mail support@adafruit.com and provide them a link to this forever thread along with your order# and replacement request.

Hello,
I was offered a new Airlift board for Christmas but I got the same problem. No response could be obtained from the board. I have tested it with an Arduino UNO and an Arduino Mega with the same results.
Thanks to the previous posts, I have flashed the ESP32 with the last SW version and now the board is working fine.
For information I have used an Arduino mega board as serial1 was required.
However, I had to add some ‘sleep’ commands in the ESPTool Python script because the Arduino UART seems to fail when it received data too early after initialization.
Thanks a lot to both of you.
