ItsyBitsy nRF52840 - Powering

by rwgreen1173 on Fri Oct 16, 2020 3:03 pm

I am using the ItsyBitsy nRF52840 to scan for a bluetooth device.
When it runs plugged into a usb power source it works fine.

Then when I try to power it with a battery on the BAT and GND pin it turns on and after a little while it turns off.

Am I missing something obvious.
Maybe the board is trying to conserve battery and turning off?

What are you using for a battery?

I have tried quite a few things most recently a 3.7 Li-ion.

Does it shut down like this only when it's doing specific things, or does it always?

It is scanning for a bluetooth device all the time.
Nothing else. It just turns off after a little while.

I am thinking maybe its is going into low power mode ?

Not unless your code is putting in a low power mode. Is the battery drained?

No.
If I unplug it and plug it back in it turns back on for a while again.

I'm baffled. I'll reach out to see if I can find anything useful.

nothing looks amiss - the power is a simple diode input, so power is the 'same' from battery or USB - like there's no magical thing different about USB power. when the 'itsy' turns off do you see any LEDs at all?
you could maybe try another battery?

Ok,
Something must be wrong because now it's not even powering on at all.
