WINC1500 "shield not present"

by whalley on Sun Nov 08, 2020 7:14 pm

Hi, I am using the WINC1500 board with the on-board antenna with the Metro M0 Express. I've soldered it up to the included headers and placed it on the Metro Express. All the example sketches for checking and updating firmware or scanning for wifi, return the "Wifi shield not present" error message. No lights or activity are visible on the wifi board when the Arduino powers up. Are there steps to further troubleshoot why it isn't being recognized? (What pins should I check for connectivity on to validate the board or solder jobs?)

Other sketches / using the Metro board without the shield works just fine. I also tried the shield with an R3 Uno I have lying around and got the same "Wifi shield not present" messages, so I don't think it's the Arduino.

The on-board reset button DOES work (The board will reset when I push the button), so I know I have some electrical connections working.

I've attached a couple small photos of my solder jobs in case it's helpful, I thought these were clean enough. Any troubleshooting advice is greatly appreciated.

The soldering is close, but you do want to see a little more smooth flow melt. You do not need anymore solder, but I'd go over each solder point again.

When you are done try running the CheeckWiFi101Firmware sketch and open the serial console @ 9600 to see if it passes the version test.

Thanks for looking. I redid all the solder points across the board again and it's working on the R3 now, and I've updated the firmware to 19.6.1.

Hey,

Great job on both the soldering and the firmware update.
