1030 USB WiFi Module for Raspberry Pi - Can Antenna go upsid

by donbright on Sat Mar 13, 2021 12:53 pm

Hello there

I purchased a USB WiFi (802.11b/g/n) Module with Antenna for Raspberry Pi
PRODUCT ID: 1030 and have a question about the orientation of the Antenna.

This is for a little robot who has the raspberry pi mounted upside down. When I plug in the antenna, it pokes downwards instead of upwards. This won't work as the Antenna pokes into the ground. The RPI can't really be flipped over because of the way the robot is designed.

I notice the Antenna can rotate but it only seems to rotate 180 degrees.

Is there a way to rearrange the antenna around so it will point upwards? Is it possible to use a very short USB cable between the dongle and the RPI?

Thank you

my solution is to get an extension cable (or build your own with some of the usb a plugs that adafruit has, and some wiring).

im using a usb a-socket on a pcb board (dont see these on adafruit but they are out there) to secure the antenna to the robot 'upside down' so it sticks right side up and flops in a more natural way.

along with some right-angle headers.

seems to work well.

thanks
