[SOLVED?] AirLift as a serial server (Like RN-171/131)

by bkamen on Fri Apr 23, 2021 11:13 pm

I'm dipping my toes into ESP32/8266 land and got myself an Airlift to tinker with.

One of the first things I'd like to have it do is act as a serial server (TCPIP <-> UART) much like the Lantronix WiPort or the (now Microchip) RN-131/171.

It would see I could write firmware to do that -- but rather than re-invent the wheel - has this been done to any extent already?
(even as a stripped down example?)

Of course I did a google search - but various attempts at an assortment of search terms don't seem to turn up what I'm looking for.

UPDATE: I did find this which might be what I'm looking for: https://atadiat.com/en/e-esp8266-esp32- ... converter/
(Need to read)

Thanks in advance,

-Ben

That's a project where rolling your own would be useful. It's well defined, doesn't require anything exotic, and deciding how to handle the Wifi interface (choosing a port and a protocol) will help you get used to working with the hardware.
