Realtek 8723BU WiFi+BT: Severe packet loss pinging router

Post by bhamiltoncx »

Hi Adafruit support folks,

I received order 2626748 today (purchased on 2021-08-03). I was able to connect the enclosed Realtek 8723BU USB WiFi + Bluetooth adapter to my Windows 10 system (a home arcade I'm building) and the drivers installed automatically.

I was able to connect to my home WiFi network, but even after rebooting a few times, I noticed severe (3-5%) packet loss when pinging my home router. This makes most services not very usable. :(

I was previously using a Realtek 8821CU USB WiFi + Bluetooth adapter on the same system, so I swapped the two adapters and confirmed the 8821CU had no ping issues on the same system connected to the same network (even when I forced both to 2.4 GHz 802.11n).

How can I help troubleshoot this issue?

its tough because...it could just be that this doesn't have as good interaction with your router. that is, a replacement isnt likely to help. i'd go for a refund, email support@adafruit for htat
