With the death of 3g (and most modules here apparently supporting 3g) what is the future of connecting arduino and similar to the mobile and data networks?

Or am I wrong?

There are a few 4G modules available for Arduino et al. Look around. I imagine more will become available soon.

For small amounts of data, the RockBlock satellite modem works anywhere in the world, and is reasonably priced (pay as you go data plans are available).

I'm following a tutorial and am just wondering why with the death of 3g, modules that (I think) don't work are still available for sale, and like for like replacements haven't hit the market despite 4g being well established.

The world moves on. You won't find "like for like" 4G replacements for obsolete 3G modules.
No market for them.

No complaints with any of the three. And they all use Simcom chips, which is handy should you already be familiar with the FONA 3G and its SIM5320 chip. Sometimes the AT commands are the same between them all, sometimes a little different and you just need to dig in the manual. What tutorial are you looking at?

THANK YOU! I'm looking at those options now. I started following this for the solar/envrionmentalproofing, but he's also working with the now deceased FONA feather, and I suspect that I will need mobile data given that I will also be installing my feather in a remote location.

That tutorial is nice, I've also been interested in making a solar panel/battery setup to power remote cell boards.
