FONA Not Registering - Consistent -115 dbm

Post by cnanda »

I am testing out a new FONA Feather and for some reason it isn't registering. I activated the SIM card, and setup everything according to the instructions but it looks like the network strength is sitting at -115dbm (no matter where I walk in the house) and it does not register.

Here is some of the output. First couple network tests, signal strength, and the failed SMS sending (obviously if it isn't registered lol):

Call Ready

SMS Ready
n
---> AT+CREG?
<--- +CREG: 0,2
Network status 2: Not registered (searching)
FONA> i
---> AT+CSQ
<--- +CSQ: 0,0
RSSI = 0: -115 dBm
FONA> n
---> AT+CREG?
<--- +CREG: 0,2
Network status 2: Not registered (searching)
FONA> i
---> AT+CSQ
<--- +CSQ: 0,0
RSSI = 0: -115 dBm
FONA> n
---> AT+CREG?
<--- +CREG: 0,0
Network status 0: Not registered
FONA> i
---> AT+CSQ
<--- +CSQ: 0,0
RSSI = 0: -115 dBm
FONA> i
---> AT+CSQ
<--- +CSQ: 0,0
RSSI = 0: -115 dBm
FONA> s
Send to #40404
Type out one-line message (140 char): test
---> AT+CMGF=1
<--- OK
---> AT+CMGS="40404"
<--- >
> test
^Z
Failed
FONA>
ERROR

Any insight would be great. No matter where I move to, the signal strength stays the same.

Did you attach an antenna?

Yes, the small antenna that came with it is attached. Though seeing that the RSSI is 0, I am guessing maybe something is wrong with that.

Closing post. Looks like it may have been my location. I am a bit farther north today and spun it up, and have a nice connection. Thanks and sorry for the waste of time.
