Quick question,

I have a FONA 5320 but stopped service on my TING 3G SIM awhile back. I am ready to restart my project, but would like to hold off on ordering another TING SIM card until I have the electronics and some testing completed. Will the 5320 work locally between itself and the Pi, without the active SIM card? Or will I constantly be getting error messages while writing the code?

Last time I had the TING SIM up and running for 8 months and did not have time to get the project completed... throwing away $$$

Is the TING 3G the best service supplier for SMS messaging and data transfer?

The SIM5320 will be able to talk to your microcontroller without a SIM card, but won't be able to do anything that requires a cell connection.

That depends on where you are and what other providers are available. We use Ting cards because they provide the widest overall coverage in the US.

Just to follow up on, today I activated my Ting account. Waiting for the SIM to arrive. Too much of a headache without the SIM to do programming.
