NEW FONA 3G NOT COMPATIBLE WITH TING, SPRINT, or VERIZON 2G/

Post by anakin9603 »

Is anyone having difficulty in establishing subscriber service with the SIM5320A based FONA 3G product? I recently purchased this with the TING 2G mini SIM and contacted TING who stated the IEMI imprinted on the device is not compatible with either 2G or 3G service. Just for a sanity check, I also checked with Verizon and Sprint, also to no avail. Hoping to get this up and running with embedded app. Thanks.

I use SpeedTalk Mobile, and have been for the last several months.

Got the sim card from Amazon, and after receiving the card signed up online at SpeedTalk's website, didn't need to talk to anyone.

Are you using this guide to setup the FONA 3G? I already order the SIM card but I'm wonder if the instructions are OK to do the initial setup

Are you using this guide https://learn.adafruit.com/fona-tetheri ... bone-black to do the initial setup? I order the SIM card from SpeedTalk but I'm wonder if the code in the guide is still good.

I used this guide:

https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-fon ... -breakout/

First testing it out using the "Direct USB Connection" section.

Then used an UNO (described later in the same link above) and their code.

Now using a Feather 32u4 Basic Proto with my own code since I've incorporated an old rotary dial.
