I'm using my custom made (Arduino Mega-based) PCB to interface with the 3G Fona Module. It uses the standard software serial and works fine.
However, looking at the redesign of my custom PCB, I noticed two of the three extra Hardware Serial aren't being used. As a result, I'm thinking of connecting the 3G FONA to it instead.
So my question is what's the main advantage if I switch over to hardware serial? Is it just more stable and faster communication with the 3G Fona?
Choose HW Serial Over SW Serial Whenever Possible?

Hardware serial has much less overhead than software serial. It is potentially faster and there will be less chances for dropped characters.
