How do I use the FONA with 3V Input

Post by pmcconico »

I would like to use the FONA with 3V input. Current pinout:

FONA -> Arduino Uno
5V -> 3.3V
GND -> GND
VIO -> 3.3V
KEY -> GND

With this configuration the FONA is not powering on. What am I doing wrong?

Hi pmcconico,

On my FONA/Feather combo I don't have the 3.3 V Feather pin going to the FONA 5 V pin, and it's been working fine that way for many months now.

Here it is packed in an old rotary phone:

In the pic you might see a little blob of solder at the FONA 5V pinout, but that's just leftover solder from when it was connected to my UNO, there's no wire soldered there now.

So try it without that "5V -> 3.3V" wire, works for me, hope it works for you!

Thanks @rskup. You're right it's working without connection to 5V pin.
