block for timer?

by paoloadafruit on Sun Jan 20, 2019 5:49 pm

Hello,

I need a block that let me turn something on for a set period of time, say for 30 mins, and then turn it off. Does IO have this capability?

We currently do not have this capability from a block - you can use an RTC for this task, or grab the time feed from an Adafruit IO Time Feed.

If you'd like to suggest this block - viewtopic.php?f=56&t=130408

Can you please tell me what RTC is and how it works?

Thank you

Sure, an RTC is a real-time-clock. It's a timing crystal powered externally by a battery which can keep extremely accurate time for your project.

Here's an example of a RTC breakout: https://www.adafruit.com/product/3013
