great rhombicuboctahedron

In last week’s video https://youtu.be/fwgD5P8VYsQ, the Ruiz brothers introduced a 3d printed cube as a cabinet for your task time logger, and I couldn’t wait to tell you that that shape - a cube with all edges and all corners chamfered giving 6 octagons, 12 rectangles and 8 hexagons = 26 faces - has a name. It’s a Great Rhombicuboctahedron. It even has an equilateral form. http://wolframalpha.com/input/?i=great+rhombicuboctahedron+edges

Even better, it’s included as one of the Archimedean polyhedra in Kepler’s Harmonices Mundi. Figure 6a in https://goo.gl/images/3UkTBH.

Kinda nerdy, but mostly kinda cool.

Cheers,
Fred

Great rhombicuboctahedron! That's going to be my exclamation of surprise for a while.
Thanks for the nugget of knowledge from the book of geometry. It is kinda cool. Here's a CG image.
