[SOLVED] Making a Dashboard with a shared feed

by dedwards21 on Wed Feb 06, 2019 4:41 pm

I can't seem to find a way to do this, so I assume it is not possible but maybe I am overlooking something. My boss is sharing one of his feeds with me and I can see it on my shared data but I want to be able to make a dashboard of my own using that data or maybe be able to share a whole dashboard with only a few people instead of making the data public. Is any of this already possible? Thanks in advance.

You can't bring shared feed data into a dashboard (yet). An alternative would be to pull the data from that feed into your own site, or pulling down the data yourself. But you can't currently share feed data between account dashboards.

Is there the possibility of this becoming a feature in the near future? I can't seem to edit the sliders / switches on public dashboards shared to either, but can see that being a problem as well.

@rylandinventionland Great news - this feature has been added to Adafruit IO!

We’ve also added shared feeds to the dashboard block editor so that you can build hybrid dashboards with feeds from multiple Adafruit IO accounts. Shared feeds get the same instant updates as feeds you own, and if you have read/write access to the shared feeds, you’ll be able to send data to them from dashboards you create.

I've successfully used the web interface to create Dashboard Blocks that use shared feeds. I would now like to use the REST API to create Dashboard Blocks that use shared feeds. I've tried numerous attempts at setting the feed owner within the "block_feeds" part of the API, without success. Is it possible and if so, how is it done?

The reason I'd like to do it is that I'm sharing some of my feeds with colleagues and friends. Rather than having those people set up their own dashboards/blocks, I'd like to provide them with a Python script that sets up the dashboards/blocks for them.

Could you post the example script below?

Many thanks for your prompt reply.

The script I’m using is [here](https://github.com/roscoe81/enviro-moni ... tup_Gen.py).

At present, I’ve made the dashboards public to get around the issue but I’d prefer to keep them private and allow my friends and colleagues to use the script to create their own private dashboards that access the feeds that I share with them. Here’s an example of a [dashboard](https://io.adafruit.com/Roscoe81/dashboards/northcliff) that was generated by the script.
