I decided to try one more time before I gave up for the day.
- I went to the Adafruit home https://www.adafruit.com and clicked on "Account" at the top right, and clicked "Sign Out" from the drop-down menu.
- That took me to the sign in page https://accounts.adafruit.com/users/sign_in but I didn't sign in there. Instead, I clicked the "IO" link near the top-left of the page. That took me to https://io.adafruit.com and from there I clicked "Get Started for Free" at the top-right of the page. That took me to the sign up page https://accounts.adafruit.com/users/sign_up where I clicked the "Sign In" button under the text HAVE AN ADAFRUIT ACCOUNT? at the bottom of the page.
- That took me back to the sign in page https://accounts.adafruit.com/users/sign_in where I entered my Adafruit account email and password and clicked "Sign In"
- That signed me into the account page https://accounts.adafruit.com and left me there so I clicked on "IO" at the top of the page.
- This took me back to the IO page https://io.adafruit.com where I clicked "Sign In" and experienced the same behavior as my first post described.
I thought maybe I should contact Adafruit directly but first I downloaded Firefox (to my chagrin) and tried everything from my
first post and
this post. Different browser, same behavior. So, on the IO front page, I clicked on "Get Help" at the bottom of the page.
- That took me to the support page https://io.adafruit.com/support where I clicked the big blue block labeled "Contact Adafruit IO Support" which popped up a dialog.
- In the "Adafruit IO Feedback" dialog, I selected the radio button "There is an issue with Adafruit IO. Something is broken!" then I clicked the "Continue" button.
- The dialog box changed to contain some text and a big blue "Sign In" button with I clicked. It did nothing.
- Since it did nothing, I clicked it around 27 more times (because that's what you do when a button does nothing) and it still did nothing.
- Finally, I gave up and clicked the "Close" button at the bottom-right of the dialog box. That closed the dialog.
- From there, I clicked on the "Visit Adafruit IO Forums" button and posted a new comment to my own post (this one).
Adafruit, I
think I love you. I buy lots of stuff from you. I subscribe to AdaBox. But, I swear (and maybe it's not you, but me), every time I want to get started on a project, and have to use Adafruit software to get it done, I quickly run aground. Then, I spend an inordinate amount of time hunting down the problem when I had really just wanted to work on my project. You're a lot like Linux in this way.
I feel sometimes we're fated to meet at the wrong times. In this case, I just wanted to start using IO because
your instructions said to. I'm sad. I'm going to go off and be by myself for a while.
