IoT-OnOff App for iOS devices

by easternstargeek on Sun Apr 26, 2020 12:37 pm

Has anyone out there successfully connected their IoT-OnOff App to

I have several published feeds from my industrial PLC that are working nicely, and the App will connect to my account in the broker, but when I do, io.adafruit returns the following error message:
MQTT ERROR: <my device ID> <my IP Address> SUBSCRIBE to topic `+/iot-onoff-export-widget/26595702` rejected, not a valid resource topic

This, in spite of me deleting all of the sample dashboards and groups that came with the app.

According to their FAQ at,

"Yes, IoT OnOff works well with io.adafruit.
You need to follow some specific configuration details!

Broker configuration

Port: 443
Path: /mqqt
SSL: true
Authentication is required
Username: see at your adafruit AIO key "Username"
Password: see at your adafruit AIO key "Active key"

MQTT topic configurations
Every topic needs to start with your user name as defined in "adafruit AIO key"
Followed by "/seeds/"
Followed by a topic name of your own choice
example: krisvanhoye/seeds/temperature

The default DEMO configuration that comes with the install of IoT-OnOff is not compatible with the rules from io adafruit and needs to be removed before you try to connect. The connection with the io adafruit broker will be closed if you subscribe with a topic that does not follow the rules described above."

So, my questions to Adafruit-
1. Is the above information published by IoT-OnOff correct?
2. If your server returns the MQTT error shown above, will any subsequent good subscribe requests still go through, or does the error block all subsequent attempts?
3. What do I do with the "Path" parameter ( /mqtt )

My questions to IoT-OnOff Users:
Did you get the same MQTT error? How was your experience setting up a dashboard and subscribing to io.adafruit feeds? Any idea how I can get rid of that error?

Many thanks, and kind regards,

I have the same problem and can’t solve it by my self.

Is there no help available?

by the way, there is a typo in the referenced document from IoT-OnOff:
wrong: Followed by "/seeds/"
correct: Followed by "/feeds/"

Kind regards,

Since this is an application which we (adafruit) don't officially support - could you please link the vendor to this thread:

They may have more information re: their reference.
