Directions for the Remote Control Door Lock featured on learn.adafruit.com using a fingerprint sensor and Adafruit IO call for using cc3000 breakout board, but the product is discontinued.

Is there an alternative part that can be used in place of this without additional challenges to integrate? HS students are building the device and we are all Arduino beginners.

Yep! I suggest the same as dastels - the AirLift line should be your best bet for a "plug-and-play" breakout which works with Adafruit IO
