I ordered a Rockblock 9603 from Adafruit a few months ago, and I am just getting around to using it because I had to get radio frequency permission to use for a Navy research project first (which I now have).
I've used Rockblocks in the past while I was in college and never had an issue with them. However I can't get the simple hello world tutorial from your website to work with this particular Rockblock. I've tried send short burst data in 3 different locations dozens of times and have been unsuccessful each time.
I have line rental and plenty of credits so this seems to be an issue with the device itself or possibly the antenna. The antenna also looks dirty (or possible burned?) I have attached a photo.

This will be a more complicated issue than usual for a replacement as you are outside our 30-day warranty, but we can try and work with you.
Can you do a basic COMMS check using the AT commands and screen?

for this kind of detailed question please email rockblock - the hardware seems OK (its communicating) so it could be a service or setup issue which we don't have any access to!
